What is coronoid fossa?

The coronoid fossa is a small depression on the anterior surface of the humerus bone, located just above the trochlea. It serves as a site of attachment for the coronoid process of the ulna bone, which forms part of the hinge joint of the elbow. When the elbow joint is flexed, the coronoid process fits into the coronoid fossa, allowing for smooth movement of the joint. The coronoid fossa is also involved in stabilizing the elbow joint during movements that involve rotation of the forearm. Injuries to the coronoid fossa can occur due to blunt force trauma or overuse injuries, resulting in pain and reduced range of motion in the elbow joint. Treatment may require rest, physical therapy, and/or surgery, depending on the severity of the injury.
